Copper Kings News · Kings Earn Season Sweep of Wykons

The Calumet Copper Kings snapped a three-game losing skid with a 52-40 West-PAC win over the West Iron County Wykons Thursday in Calumet.

“Extremely proud of the girls as a team,” Calumet coach Jeff Twardzik said. “They are not giving up on each other and continue to believe good things will happen. Tonight was a good step forward.”

Lea Bjorn led Calumet with 16 points as Ellie Djerf added 12.

The Copper Kings (8-9, 5-3) limited WIC to three second-quarter points to take a 23-12 halftime lead.

Eden Golliher paced the Wykons with 13 points.

“WIC is a good team and we feel fortunate to come out with a win,” Twardzik said. “I’m sure they’ll be successful in the tournament.”

Calumet’s win seals the West-PAC regular season title for Houghton (12-6, 7-1). WIC now has three conference losses (14-4, 4-3).
