Copper Kings News · Calumet Wins at L’Anse in Boys Basketball

The Calumet Copper Kings overwhelmed the L’Anse Purple Hornets 71-37 for a West-PAC victory Tuesday in L’Anse.

Eli McParlan led Calumet with 22 points and Matt Ojala added 17 while Travis Ojala had 12.

“Calumet is one of the best teams in the conference,” L’Anse coach Kyle Koski said. “Their defense is suffocating and their leadership shows why they are a very tough team.

“Obviously the two Ojalas are very good, and then McParlan throws in 22 points and they are tough to defend and they rebound hard.”

L’Anse shot 15 of 44 from the field and had 22 turnovers.

Calumet led 23-5 after the first quarter.

“We just need to play 100 percent effort against better teams. It’s actually quite simple,” Koski said. “They need to understand the hustle plays like diving for loose balls, and you need to box out against teams like Calumet.”

Alec Rajala led L’Anse with 13 points.

Next, Calumet (10-4, 4-1) hosts Chassell on Friday. L’Anse (4-11, 1-5) welcomes West Iron County on the same day.
