Multiple Teams · Kings Take Down West Iron Co. in OT


Hailey Wickstrom scored 25 and Brooke Kariniemi added 18 points, proving to be a formidable post duo, leading the Calumet Copper Kings past the West Iron County Wykons in overtime, 71-63, Thursday in a West-PAC game in Calumet.

The game was close throughout, with WIC leading 42-41 heading into the fourth before Calumet (12-5, 6-2) sent the game into overtime.

In overtime, Kariniemi scored five points while Wickstrom added four in the extra session to give their team the win.

The contest was much closer than Calumet’s 54-34 win on Dec. 8 in Iron River.

Emily Kinner led the Wykons (4-14, 1-6) with 23 points.

Calumet, who ends the season second in the West-PAC, will host Baraga on Monday.
